Opening to Lord of the rings

In the opening the scene starts off dark this creates a tense start as we only hear a voice, then we see different shots with people with rings, this sets the scene and we understand what the film is going to be about, the medium shots show us some of the characters involved in the film. The close up on the map shows the area that it is going to be filmed and some places that are going to be involved we get the impression it is going to be a dark film due to the forests and the shots on fighting scene and the close up on the ring.
The editing pace starts off slow and then builds up throughout the scene. This shows us that this film is going to have a lot of fight scenes and it shows us in more depth a brief outline of what the film is going to be about.
We get the impression that the target audience of this film is going to be mainly a male audience but could be some females. This is because their are a lot of dark moments and we see a fight scene, most men will be able to relate to this as fight scenes get people on the edge of their seats.
The music in this opening is slow and quiet this creates tension and builds suspense. Also because the music is being played behind the speaker this makes us wonder about what is going to happen as suspense is built throughout the opening
Mise-en-scen is used give us a real idea of what could be happening in this film and shows us a better view on the characters, also it tells us what time the film is set and tells us the wealth of the characters. For the different props shown and the clothing the characters are wearing, you can already make a guess on what side the characters are going to be on and you can tell what sorts of groups of people are going to be in the film this is good because it enables you to use your imagination and you are able to think in more depth about the different types of things that could go on
I believe that this opening is very misleading, but i do like it. I believe it sets the scene as you can understand what the film is going to be based on i believe that to make it better they could show where the scene is going to be set and give us a bit more detail on what it is going to include.
