Oening of Jaws

We start of with an over the shoulder view on the girl. This shot is also a long shot, this shows us who the main character is going to be and it sets the scene nicely for what we should expect to happen and when this incident is going to occur. When we get a close up on her we see her facial expressions and we are unaware of what is going to happen, the low angle shot makes us realize that something is after her but we are not quite sure what and we do knot see the thing looking at her. we begin to feel that it is a dangerous creature and the shot makes it seem as if this creature is dominant over the female character. The the shot zooms in and we see the creature is closer, this then makes us realize something bad is going to happen and we begin to worry about what is going to happen to the girl. Close ups on the girl show us that she is in trouble but she does not realize as we see her facial expressions to be excited.
A slow editing pace means that tension builds up due to us seeing many long shots on her. As  we see the girl begins to get into trouble we see the editing pace builds up, this makes us see many different shots of the girl and we can tell that she is going to get hurt. Also a lot of shots builds the tension up even more and creates a climax.
The genre is made clear in this opening as we can constantly see the girl in trouble. This tells us it is a horror film. The building up of tension and the changing of editing pace makes the genre clear and tells us what it is going to be.
This film is targeted toward teenagers, due to the film being set on the beach most teenagers would be attracted towards this as many teenagers go on holiday to beach places. The young actor also links to the holiday point as this can be related to by teenagers.
Music is being played gently and happily throughout the opening of this film. We do not get the impression that something bad is going to happen, but there are parts where we feel uneasy as the music is a bit too relaxed. Tension builds up when she is getting dragged around the water, but it is only late on when she has drowned the music increases in volume and we  then realize that she has died and had been killed by a fish.
I do not think that this opening is very good because it is just one long scene of her swimming, you can tell something is going to go wrong, you know what is going to go wrong and finally you can tell that its is going to be a boring film as there is nothing much else they can base it on as the opening scene shows everything. Also the main part that is meant to make you jump, does not achieve this because of the music.
