The villains costumes

Our three villains-
We have placed the super villain in the middle so that you can see the other two are his protectors and we decided that we will have the super villain as a small viscous person as you do not expect this from a villain. All our actors have weapons this makes them look more evil and it makes them look like more of a threat. The suits are used to make them look smart but are the same time scary.

Famous actors and actresses

Johnny Depp has been involved in many movies in his time. His first film he starred in was a nightmare on elm street in 1984 from then on he began to star in more and more films and became very popular. It is said he is one of the most versatile actors of all time. I personally think that my favorite film he was in was Pirates of the Caribbean. I had never seen an actor like this, he was funny he was scary and he was very clever. In this film he is made out to be a hero but throughout the film he is an idiot making stupid mistakes drinks alcohol but for some reason I think he is an amazing character and actor.

Angelina Jolie is a popular actress. She has stared in many films and has had a major part in most of them. Her first film was called lookin' to get out and this was made in 1982 so she made her screen debut at a very young age. This is why i believe she is such a class actress, she has had so much experience and has improved so much over the years. I personally think the best film she stared in was Tomb Raider. This is because she played such an important role and played it so well.

Opening to The Matrix

The shots start off with a view on the different numbers this makes us realize that this film is going to be a lot to do with codes which are usually conventions of an action film. then we see a close up on a police officer this makes us aware of the characters involved then we have a focus pull where will still see one of the police officers to show us the characters in this scene but we can also see the main police officer clearer in the background. having a low angled shot in the background makes all of the officers look vulnerable. An over the shoulder shot is used when they are opening the door this shows the guns and shows what they are looking at. Straight after a medium shot is used to show the facial expressions of the police officer taking down the door. this is used to show us what type of character he is. Finally we get a few different close ups on the police officers faces to show us the worry in their faces. this contrast with the close up on the characters face who is getting shouted at as she is very calm and relaxed.
The editing pace is very quick at the start as we want to build up tension in the film.the shots are put together so that you see the police men walk in the direction to the door. the continuity of each of the shots work together so that we see what is going to happen in each point of time.
We can tell that this film is aimed towards teenagers, this is becausem there is alot happening and the pace of each scene is quite fast this brings suspense and we want to know what is going to happen later on the film, i feel it is aimed towards teenagers because it is quite scary at the start and it is hard to understand what is happening.

Our films age certificate

Our film is going to be a 15  rating. Most action films vary in age ratings as they all have different characteristics that makes the films different. we have looked up what makes a 15 different from a 12 and an 18 and we believe that our film should be a 15 due to the many things that tell us why it should be this age rating.
THESE ARE THE CONVENTIONS OF A 15 AGE CERTIFICATE
  • strong violence
  • frequent strong language
  • portrayals of sexual activity
  • strong verbal references to sex
  • sexual nudity
  • brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
  • discriminatory language or behaviour
  • drug taking

Although we do not portray all of these in the opening two minuets throughout the scene most of these are shown therfore we believe that is why our film is a 15.

Secret Agent in costume

This is our secret agent-
The suit is used to make him look posh, smart and attractive. This idea makes a wider audience want to watch the film and also we thought that it makes the secret agent look better as a character because it suits the job he is doing. Also we noticed from watching a lot of action films we got the impression that all secret agents have pistols no secret agent has a big machine gun so that is why we used this gun.

Villain in costume

This is the villains sidekick-
we chose a suit for our villain as we thought it may contrast well with the other props he has with him. This villain is tall scary and is the strongest villain out of the three so the idea of not giving him a gun shows off more of his strength. The hammer makes him look more scary and again shows off his strength. The balaclava is used to show he is not as high up as the super villain and it makes him look more intimidating. We decided that the blue covers on his feet will be used to make hit stand out as a villain and to make him look slightly stupid as one of the villains.

Breakdown of film

Roughly 0-30 Seconds the opening secene-
Angent sinclair in being questioned, we start off with a close high angle view on his face to see his facial expression  then we see the villians sidekick next to him this is done so we can see what the agent is feeling and we get a better view on what is happening to the agent. Then the supervillan walks in and it an over the shoulder view so you are reminded the super villain is there but you still see the agent. Then the villians sidekick takes over and beats up the secret agent.
Roughly at 30-1:40 The chase scene-
Agent sincair has a long shot on hit moped driving down Epsom Downs this gives you an idea on where this scene is going to take place. Then we get a medium shot of the villains with guns trying to shoot the agent this is a shot reverse shot and this shows you who is going to be in the scene and we get a better view on the location. When agent Sinclaire reaches the car park we have a medium shot on the agent power sliding to build up excitement. Then the close up and a zoom out on the dead agent this creates more tension and it makes the secret agent seem more vounrable. Having a medim shot on the secret agent hiding behind his bike it is also a high angled view to show him even more vounrable.
Roughly at 1:40-2:00 The final scene-
We see the villains sidekick and agent Sinclair an over the shoulder view back in the interogation scene and the secret agent breaks free and plants the villians sidekicks head into the cardboard box, the rest of this scene is a medium shot length.

Script

Script
Starts off in the interrogation room, Secret agent (Alex) tied up in a chair with the two villains questioning the secret agent.

JACK: Where is the Intel? (In a harsh tone)
ALEX: I am not saying anything! Especially not to you! (Trying to break free)
Kieran: if you do not tell us where the Intel is, there will be serious consequences.
JACK: So tell us.
ALEX: I have already told you I am not saying a fucking word.
Kieran: Okay then so why where you at Epsom Downs?
ALEX: Well…….

FLASHBACK
Secret agent on moped at Epsom Downs. Chase scene, villains are trying to take out the secret agent to get the Intel.
THOMAS: Meet me at the car park NOW!

Alex on moped driving on moped down road.
JACK: Take him out

Reaches the car park, power slides and sees the dead body of Thomas takes helmet off.
ALEX: Oh SHIT

Villains shooting and running at the secret agent shouting at him
Dom: KILL HIM
Kieran: Do not let him get away!
Alex runs away to find cover behind a car
Alex: I have the Intel what should I do with it? (Speaking to his watch)
Headquarters: Hide it; just don’t let them have it whatever you do!!!!
As he finds cover he hides the Intel under the car.
The villains surround Alex and then Kieran punches him and knocks him unconscious.
The scene then fades back to the interrogation scene.

Jack: So… are you going to tell us where it is?
While the villains are speaking Alex is trying to cut the rope on his hands with some sharp material. Alex then cuts the rope.
Alex: No!!!
Alex then fights of the villains and escapes.

Planning Targets

By the end of term your film needs to be in a timelinand all the research and planning needs to be done.  You need to have interviews with your actors on your blog and a storyboard animatic and script.  As it stands now it is very hard to work out what you're planning - your blog should lead smoothly towards your production being uploaded and its seems as if your film is going to turn up without warning.  Evidence every step of your planning!

Titles

These are the different title that i found on word that i thought will look best with our movie name. we are still not sure what we are calling our movie yet but we had a discussion that intel is a decent name as in the opening two minutes the main character is carrying a laptop bag which is acting as the 'intel'. The title i have highlighted in red is the one i think that is best and that it looks big and bold and seems as it will capture peoples attention.

The two titles i have highlighted in blue is my second choice as they look alot more computer like and will link in with the the name of the movie. The reason they are second is that i don't want the movie to look like a sci-fi movie misleading our viewers.

Costume and props

The main characters clothing will be very smart and professional. He is likely to be wearing a suit. This would go along with the secret agent theme, James bond is the most famous secret agent and he is seen wearing suits on a regular basis.

The villains in the film will be wearing dark clothing and some will also have balaclavas. This is the stereotyipicall costume for the so called 'bad guys'.Also the balaclavas show that they are trying to hide their face, this shows the audience that they are dangerous. If the audience do not know what the characters look like they will want to know more about them.

Opening to Shawshank Redemption

At the start we get a medium length shot of the two characters who we expect are going to be the main characters the shot shows us the character and the type of person he is going to be. The next shot shows a van this tells us that the people in the van are going to be some who are involved. And then finally a long shot on the prison shows us where this film is going to be set. The over the head shot gives us a different interpretation on the prison as it makes it look more like a school.
The editing pace is very slow throughout the opening, this is because it wants you too see the whole setting and they want you understand the whole scene. The slow editing pace does not create tension and does not make us think alot of action is going to take place. The continuity of the shots work well as you can see the differnece between each o the shots and they all fit in together.
We can tell that the target audience of this film is young adults and adults this is because at the start you see a prison so we understand that it will not be for a younger generation as we get the impression that it is going to have some violence and foul language, As it is set in a prison with older people we see that adults are able to relate to it.
The music throughout the opening is very intriguing as it is very relaxed. It is not too loud and it is not to quiet, it creates atmosphere and it shows you the setting in a better prospective. What the music does is draws you into the scene.
The genre is made clear at the beginning. We can tell that is is going to be crime with some action, the main reasons we get this impression is because of the characters and because of the shot types. Showing us some of the characters and being told how they got into the prison makes us feel that they are going to show us some of the things they did, this will contain action. Also the setting is shown to be the prison, this makes us realize alot is going to be based on criminals.
Wearing old clothing means that we can see in more depth the wealth of the characters and it tells us what time of year the film is set, also it shows us what type of a character the person is in the film. They are wearing prisoners clothing, this is the stereotypical view on what prisoners would wear. Throughout the film we get hints that suggest to us the film is about a prison and it going to be based on that film
I believe that the opening to this film works well. That is because everything we want to see is shown in the opening two minuets for example the settings and the characters. This is good because it keeps you drawn in and you want to find out more about what is going to happen to the characters and you want to find out why it is set where it is.

Favouite action film

Opening to Lord of the rings

In the opening the scene starts off dark this creates a tense start as we only hear a voice, then we see different shots with people with rings, this sets the scene and we understand what the film is going to be about, the medium shots show us some of the characters involved in the film. The close up on the map shows the area that it is going to be filmed and some places that are going to be involved we get the impression it is going to be a dark film due to the forests and the shots on fighting scene and the close up on the ring.
The editing pace starts off slow and then builds up throughout the scene. This shows us that this film is going to have a lot of fight scenes and it shows us in more depth a brief outline of what the film is going to be about.
We get the impression that the target audience of this film is going to be mainly a male audience but could be some females. This is because their are a lot of dark moments and we see a fight scene, most men will be able to relate to this as fight scenes get people on the edge of their seats.
The music in this opening is slow and quiet this creates tension and builds suspense. Also because the music is being played behind the speaker this makes us wonder about what is going to happen as suspense is built throughout the opening
Mise-en-scen is used give us a real idea of what could be happening in this film and shows us a better view on the characters, also it tells us what time the film is set and tells us the wealth of the characters. For the different props shown and the clothing the characters are wearing, you can already make a guess on what side the characters are going to be on and you can tell what sorts of groups of people are going to be in the film this is good because it enables you to use your imagination and you are able to think in more depth about the different types of things that could go on
I believe that this opening is very misleading, but i do like it. I believe it sets the scene as you can understand what the film is going to be based on i believe that to make it better they could show where the scene is going to be set and give us a bit more detail on what it is going to include.

Mood board

1) The moped in our film will be used when one of our characters is trying to get away with the Intel, also using a moped builds up the tension and creates more excitement, what this does is allows us to set the scene as you can tell there is going to be a lot of action from this get away scene. The stunt at the end of our scene makes people be drawn into the opening as it is more exciting.

2) This gun will be used for our fight scenes so that it makes it more interesting. Also guns are one of the main conventions of an action film so it reassures the audience of the genre.Making the guns black will show the film to be more professional and makes the gun more realistic.

3) The plain light that is positioned in a dark room is used to show the setting. as it is a dark setting and in a plain environment having a simple light like this makes the setting more of a dark place, also it will make the area look more dangerous.

4) The man in the suit shows us what the main character is going to be wearing. It will be professional as this is what most secret agents wear. A suit makes it look better as if we had a man wearing old clothing it does not make it look professional and makes it look less realistic and less of a hero.

5) The Intel is the main part of the film, this is how we got our title and it is what the film is going to be based on. Having the Intel unseen it will make the audience want to see more so they  know what the Intel is. Also this is what all the characters want to get in the film so it is very important.

6) This is a previous idea which we thought would work, but the idea of a silhouette may give away a bit too much in the opening of the film instead we had decided it may be best to leave it on a cliff hanger as this may want people to watch more.

7) This is where one of our scenes is going to be set. having a dark room with little interior makes the scene look more dangerous and makes the character who is in the chair look more vulnerable the characters are usually in the dark so you do not know what they are going to look like. this draws people in as they want to find out more about the characters.

8) This picture is a fight scene this this people an idea of what will be including in our opening. The fight scene is a typical convention of an action and keeps the audience on the edge of there seats as we want the main character to win and not to hurt himself.

9)  James Bond is one of our pictures as he inspired us to do this type of a movie. His movies have all been successful so this is what gave us the idea to do an action film. Also i believe that having an actor who you like and who is an inspiration helps you make your film better as you want to do well to end out like him.

10) A picture of the Epsom downs is used in the same way as (picture 7) it makes you understand where one of the scenes is going to take place, using this location allows us to do our other scene where our character is running away with the Intel.

11) This picture also shows the same as (picture 9) but gives us a bigger view on the area so we can see other places near this area so if something does go wrong then we can relocate. Also we get a feeling for how big the area is.

Cinema visited per month-Pie Chart

From this pie chart we can tell that most people visit the cinema 3-4 times a month, this is good because it shows that alot of people visit the cinema which also means there could be alot of people who like action films which is shown in our previous pie chart where we see action films are the most popular. Also this states that more people who will watch more films at the cinema to people who watch it at home.

Occupation-Pie chart

We can tell that the majority of the people who were asked were employed. this is good because it means they have money that they will be able to spend on the cinema meaning our film may become popular.

40% of the people we asked said they are most interested in spending time with family. this means that there will be a bigger group of people who would be able to come and visit the cinema.

Gender -Pie chart

65% of the people we asked were male this is good as this is our main target audience. As our film is an action this suits our results because action films are mainly targeted towards the male audience.

Films per month-Pie chart

We asked people how many films they watch per month and although most people said they watch 3-4 in the long run it works out better because we found out that more films are watched at the cinema per month as 90% visit the cinema 3+ a month where as 80% watch 3+ films per month at home.

Disposable income-Pie chart

40% of the people asked said they spend their disposable income on visiting the cinema. this means that having a good film could end up making good money.

Opening to Forrest Gump

The opening starts off with a medium shot of a feather traveling through the town. This suggest that this film is going to be a journey as the feather has traveled a long way to land on the main characters shoe. We are then shown a close up of the characters shoe. This shot suggests this character is important and we get the impression he is going to be the main character. Also we understand the class of this person as his shoes are very dirty and look old. But the shots suggest he is a nice person.
Slow editing pace suggests that the start of the film is going to be very relaxed, also we get the impression that nothing bad is going to happen as everything is one long shot until the feather reaches the characters foot.
We can tell that the target audience it manly aimed at people aged 13 and up. This is because at the start we see a man sitting on a bench so not many people under this age would realize what is going on. The start of this film contrasts to what actually happens in the real film and the start does not give anything away.
The music is relaxed and slow throughout the clip until the bus turns up, this connotes to the setting as the setting is also relaxed and from the music we can guess that the person is independent.
This genre is an adventure/romance, at the start we only get the impression that this film is an adventure, this is shown by the feathers long journey until it eventually reaches the main characters foot. This shot shows us that the film is going to be based on a long journey and obstacles that have to be faced.
The use of a feather is a good idea in the opening scene because it means that you can understand what the film is going to be about in more depth. Also you get a feeling for the characters that are going to be involved, we get the impression he is going to be a nice gentle person as this is what the idea of a feather gives off.
I believe that the opening is not one of the best as you do not know what is going to happen and you can you imagine what is going to happen, also after watching the film the start does not set the scene well. I do think that the film is good. You can imagine what the character has to go through and you wish you could change that, the film is gripping and i think although the start is not very good i think it keeps you gripped as you want to know a bit more.

Preliminary Task

I believe that our preliminary task could be improved if i were to do it again. This is because you do not see Luke sit down next time i will edit it so that this does not happen and so it is not visible

Audience

This shows us the audience that we aim to target as our genre is action, we expect it to target the same age group as James Bond as this is the same genre as our opening.

Oening of Jaws

We start of with an over the shoulder view on the girl. This shot is also a long shot, this shows us who the main character is going to be and it sets the scene nicely for what we should expect to happen and when this incident is going to occur. When we get a close up on her we see her facial expressions and we are unaware of what is going to happen, the low angle shot makes us realize that something is after her but we are not quite sure what and we do knot see the thing looking at her. we begin to feel that it is a dangerous creature and the shot makes it seem as if this creature is dominant over the female character. The the shot zooms in and we see the creature is closer, this then makes us realize something bad is going to happen and we begin to worry about what is going to happen to the girl. Close ups on the girl show us that she is in trouble but she does not realize as we see her facial expressions to be excited.
A slow editing pace means that tension builds up due to us seeing many long shots on her. As  we see the girl begins to get into trouble we see the editing pace builds up, this makes us see many different shots of the girl and we can tell that she is going to get hurt. Also a lot of shots builds the tension up even more and creates a climax.
The genre is made clear in this opening as we can constantly see the girl in trouble. This tells us it is a horror film. The building up of tension and the changing of editing pace makes the genre clear and tells us what it is going to be.
This film is targeted toward teenagers, due to the film being set on the beach most teenagers would be attracted towards this as many teenagers go on holiday to beach places. The young actor also links to the holiday point as this can be related to by teenagers.
Music is being played gently and happily throughout the opening of this film. We do not get the impression that something bad is going to happen, but there are parts where we feel uneasy as the music is a bit too relaxed. Tension builds up when she is getting dragged around the water, but it is only late on when she has drowned the music increases in volume and we  then realize that she has died and had been killed by a fish.
I do not think that this opening is very good because it is just one long scene of her swimming, you can tell something is going to go wrong, you know what is going to go wrong and finally you can tell that its is going to be a boring film as there is nothing much else they can base it on as the opening scene shows everything. Also the main part that is meant to make you jump, does not achieve this because of the music.

Location

Location
For our movie location we will need an open calm road for the moped case scene to be filmed. We will also need an empty car park near that road so we can film the power slide scene. My first initial idea was to do it at Epsom downs as it has a calm road leading up to a gravel car park which will make it easier to power slide. The open area of the downs will also provide a decent shoot out scene.

For the integration scene we will need to use a garage or some sort of empty dull room with a hanging light. My garage could be used as it had a hanging light and it is the right size but it will need a decent clew out for the scene to look realistic

IDEA

Initial Ideas
We want our movie to be an action movie. We will like to start our movie opening scene right in the middle of an action scene to get our viewers intrigued. i have my moped so we will use that as a chase scene and perhaps a power slide into a shooting scene. This will act as a prologue and at the end of the scene it will go back in time at the beginning of the movie. For this we will use a mixture of fast pace shots to make the chase scene fast and vicious.

What we could do to make our opening scene more complicated but more engaging is to put the main character in an unknown location seemingly captured by the 'baddies'. Whilst being interrogated the main character walks through the action scene as it is being shown. The action scene will be presented as a flash back to the audience. For the interrogation the camera shots will be mainly close up to show the main characters facial expressions and injuries. we will need to use the 180 rule to make the scene look better.
